Kid Reviews Nerd Block

Kid Reviews – Episode 1: Nerd Block

Welcome to Kid Reviews! After a long negotiation with my kids, we have agreed on a contract that works for both sides in order to facilitate this new feature. Basically, they get the toys, I get the video… Anyway, our first episode of Kid Reviews features a mystery box from Nerd Block*! I came into contact with Nerd Block when they agreed to provide some prizes for my twitter party for #UnicornChat and they also offered to send me a mystery box.

Nerd Block is a subscription service that delivers a mystery box full of nerd themed gear to your door every month. They have packages for adults, horror fans and also children that start from $13.95/month. Check out the video to see how we enjoyed opening up our mystery box together as a family!

Go to* for more info and to order your mystery block today!

Disclosure: I received this mystery box free of charge from Nerd Block. We truly did love the box and can’t wait to see what September brings!

The Geekiest Art That All Geeks Will Love! Especially Geek Parents!

I have no idea how I stumbled upon this website or specific artist but it only took me about 30 seconds to have my order placed for the artwork pictured above and it took great restraint to only order one. The artist’s name is Andry “Shango” Rajoelina and his Super Families series takes all of your favourite characters and transforms them into children.

You can choose from a ton of different options, from Batman as the father of Robin and Batgirl, to Nick Fury as father to the Avengers crew. I am normally pretty picky about spending money but for whatever reason, possibly the incredible images of fatherhood, my wallet jumped out of my pocket and onto my keyboard before I could stop myself. The stripped down images of the heroes from my favourite movies brought back a nostalgia and somehow made them seem more real to me than they ever had.

I don’t know Mr. Rajoelina and didn’t get anything for any of this, but I couldn’t resist sharing this awesomeness with all of you. If you are looking to geek up your house a little or even find a cool gift for your kids (I am getting one for my son’s birthday), you should definitely check out the full listing at the Geek Art Store! You can also follow Andry on his Facebook page and see more of his work on Tumblr.

I mean, seriously, the Goonies!

Ottawa ComicCon Is Closing In!

Well, colour me geeked out and excited because Ottawa ComicCon is only a couple days away and I can’t wait to take it all in! I missed last year’s event due to a sweeping family illness but have created multiple backup plans for this year.

The 2nd Annual Ottawa ComicCon kicks off Friday, May 10th at 2pm and runs until 5pm on Sunday, May 12th. I realize that this is Mother’s Day but if the kids were to make Mommy a Princess Leia costume, she couldn’t possibly say no to at least trying it on, right?

Of the stars in attendance, I am most excited to see Gillian Anderson, Billy Dee Williams and of course, blogger, actor and father, Wil Wheaton. I was introduced to the blogging side of Wil Wheaton through his hilarious encounter with The Bloggess, Jenny Lawson, but it’s his love for table top games that has me following him. You know, online, not literally… I have every intention of challenging Mr. Wheaton to a game of CandyLand, in hopes of avenging my loss to Harlem Globetrotter, Buckets Blakes. I’ll keep you informed on the status of this challenge as the weekend rolls on.

Are you planning on heading down to the Ernst & Young Centre for the show? If so, let me know who you are most excited to see and why? You can get more info on the 2nd Annual Ottawa ComicCon by visiting their Official Website and don’t forget to tweet me @CanadianDadBlog while you are there so I can come and say hi! You never know who might show up…
