Oren Miller GiveForward

The Story of Oren

A fellow father, dad blogger, and friend, Oren Miller, is going through a tough time right now. Diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, he is in a fight for his life and the dad community is responding in a united effort to help Oren and his family with moral and monetary support.

To the dad blogging community, Oren Miller is more than just a dad who writes about his kids. He had the idea to start a Dad Bloggers Facebook group a couple years ago that now houses almost 800 fathers from around the world. This may not sound like a big deal to some but this group has been a source of great pride, support, debate and friendship to those members and, to us, Oren is our leader.

A GiveForward campaign was started, with the initial goal of $5,000, to help Oren’s family go on a trip together. In less than 24 hours, the campaign had reached $15,000 and it continues to grow each day. What started as a simple gesture has now turned into an amazing outpouring of support that is going to help Oren and his family with more than just a family trip. Essentially, the dads have decided to push the bystander effect to the side and set a new trend of giving and sharing as much as they can to help a fellow brother and friend.

I have never been so proud to be associated with a group of such amazing and supportive people. Just two years ago most of us were struggling on our own with our blogs, and now, thanks to Oren, we have a place where we can hang out, share ideas and thoughts on fatherhood, and develop friendships that will last a lifetime. We owe Oren more than just money but this is our way of helping him now, in his time of need, and I hope you will consider helping him out as well.

To donate to Oren’s fund, you can click on this GiveForward Campaign and help in any way you can. Thank you for your consideration in helping my friend and his family.

How About Another Dose Of #AwesomeDads

After a great response to last week’s Awesome Dads post, I’ve decided to keep it going as long as I keep getting photos submitted. I’m also working on a design for the main photo, so it doesn’t look like I’m implying how awesome I am from week to week, haha.

My goal is to feature Awesome Dads doing awesome things with their kids. Whether it’s hitting the slopes, helping with homework or snuggling them back to health, I want to showcase the changing face of Dad. That said, here are this week’s Awesome Dads!

Here’s Oren Miller from the blog, Blogger Father. This isn’t the first time he’s appeared on my site and the write up I did on him for Dad Blogs Exposed will tell you more than I could write now. To follow Oren’s journey, you can check him out on his Facebook Page! Thanks, Oren!

Meet Mike Reynolds from the blog, Puzzling Posts. I don’t really know how else to describe Mike, except to say that he is one of the really great ones. I’m not talking just Dadding here either. He just seems to be a genuinely kind person and I’m happy to have met him and his family. Of note, Mike just single-handedly raised over $1800 for our recent Movember campaign. Not an easy feat. You can catch him on Twitter at @PuzzlingPostDad.

This is Kevin, who I only know as @KevinSky on Twitter. The best thing about pictures is that you don’t need to know somebody to appreciate them and I love that Dad and Grandpa are present in this amazingly patriotic shot.

Here is a photo of Chris, helping his daughter learn how to swim. This one strikes a chord for me because it’s one of my favourite things to do with my kids. It’s great when you can capture pride in a picture!

Last but certainly not least, meet Ryan Sanders from The National Fatherhood Initiative. This photo has me missing our Expos and even more so because he’s cheering for the team that they left for. Ryan has also been kind enough to offer me a guest post on his blog and I’m grateful for the opportunity. You can also follow him on their Facebook Page.

That’s it for this week! Thanks to all the Dads and wives who submitted pictures. They were all great! If you’d like to submit your great Dad pics, please send them to [email protected], along with their name and a link, if any, to your site. Til we meet again!

Cheers!

Dad Blogs Exposed! – Blogger Father

Back for another week with another great Dad Blogger! Today I’d like to introduce you to Oren Miller, who is otherwise known as Blogger Father!

Oren has been writing at Blogger Father since the birth of his child in 2007. While his blog started out as a vessel for him to feature other blogging Dads, it is now a place where he shares his sometimes controversial but always interesting thoughts on fatherhood.

In fact, his blog is the reason that I am doing these Dad Blogs Exposed features. That’s right folks, I stole his idea and am now using it as my own! If you have a problem with that, you can take it up with [email protected] because it was his original idea and I can’t be blamed for stealing it!

Anyway, back to Oren. He is one of these guys that isn’t afraid to call it like he sees it when it comes to fatherhood issues and is someone I look up to in that regard. The other thing I like about him, is that he isn’t afraid to admit when he may have jumped the gun. You can see an example of that in his posts about the Amazon Moms Club and his subsequent retraction when he learned of the good deeds they were doing at Amazon. One of the best lessons my father taught me was humility and it’s something I live by.

As I previously mentioned, one of Oren’s main focuses are his features of other blogging fathers and he’s done a lot of them! You can catch his up to date list of featured Dads, Right Here. With Dad Blogging becoming a little more mainstream, I agree with Oren that it’s important to focus on spreading the good word of fatherhood through the sharing of different works. I’ve learned a lot of being a father through these blogs and have had some great discussions through social media about what it means to be a Dad.

You can also find Oren writing over at the fatherhood social media site, Life Of Dad. In fact, he has written one of the most popular posts in the site’s brief history, when he wrote about his adventures in turning his backyard from a jungle to a livable space… We’re still trying to figure out if the post got over 170 likes because people love lawn mowing or if it was due to this picture he posted, featuring Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. This is an ongoing investigation!

I encourage you now to go check out Oren’s site at Blogger Father. He is an excellent advocate for fatherhood and we’re lucky to have him in the blogging community! Alternatively, you can find him on Twitter @BloggerFather and also on his Facebook Page.

If you tell him I sent you, you’ll get 10% off your next purchase from the Fruit of the Month club! That’s actually not true, you’ll get nothing in return so please do not Google “Fruit of the Month Club” because I don’t even know if that’s a real thing. Just visit and say hi like you would anyone else and leave my name out of it so he doesn’t know I stole his bit.

That’s it for this week of Dad Blogs Exposed! For a complete list of all my featured Dads, you can click on this off coloured and possible underlined link right here!

Cheers!
