I Guess It’s Time To Make A Wish?

I’m a little confused as to how I am supposed to write this piece. I don’t realistically believe in a lot of superstitions. Luck, karma, Murphy’s Law, etc… I find it’s just easier to set goals and then to work hard to obtain them. Not getting that big promotion doesn’t send me into a ranting tirade about how I’ve been screwed! I simply dust myself off and look at what I can do better for the next time. I’ve brushed off a lot of dust.

Recently, however, there has been a recurring anomaly that has left me pondering my belief system. We all know the modern superstition, that when you look at a clock that shows the times, “1:11 or 11:11”, that you are supposed to make a wish. It seems like more of a fun exercise to me, where you make a wish that never comes true and then you move on until it happens again in a year or so.

The problem here is that it has been happening to me with such frequency, that I am having a hard time deciphering what it all means! Looking it up on Google doesn’t help either, because there are so many possible explanations that I would no doubt choose the one I like the most and put it towards that. I could go back to the wish thing but there are so many rules about wishing, that I would be afraid to jinx it. Do you have to keep wishing for the same thing? If I wish for money or a promotion over the health and safety of my family, does that make me a jerk? And what about World Peace!!! I can’t take all this pressure!

There has to be some kind of explanation for all of this. I’m talking once a day for the last 20 or so days, this has happened. It can’t be merely a coincidence! So I’m putting it out there to you, the good readers of this blog, to tell me what is going on here? Please fill me in on what I am supposed to do with all this madness.

Also, if you have secretly been waiting for my birthday (PS-It’s in 6 days) to surprise me with a bag of cash or some cool new job offer, where I get to play on Twitter and write stories all day, please just end the suspense and do it now! I can’t go on thinking that something big is going to happen because of these ridiculous 1’s that keep popping up on any clock I happen to be standing close to.

On the other hand, I guess I could just stop looking at my iPhone…Hahahaha, not likely!

Cheers!

I am someone who if I look at the clock and it is 11:11, I wish. Usually a silly wish that will never happen but never want to risk that pesky what if.

I believe in a lot of weird things. 12:00am – 12:01am is the time of night all spooky things in the night can appear. Usually the one moment of my night I never, ever look at the clock and if I do I quickly cover my eyes Just In Case.

I believe 11:11 is every day, twice a day. And if I do see it, I wish. It’s weird I know, but done since I was twelve!

Hahaha, the 12:00 thing is hilarious! I’ll bet you are one of the people who hold their breath through a graveyard too, lol. Love it!

Well aren’t you a chuckle. I do hold my breathe through a graveyard. I avoid driving near ones with stop lights. That sucks when you get a Red on them! I used to think my closet was the grave of a computer zombie when I was a kid… let’s just say I do not watch scary movies, suspenseful movies or anything that could make me over analyze my own shadow.

I am an 11:11 wisher! No matter what I am doing, if I catch the time at 11:11 I make a wish and it makes me smile! It is my brief escape and I love when I am lucky enough to catch it!

So, I’ve experienced this same thing…seeing repeating numbers…for about 3 years now! It started when I was pregnant with my daughter and has continued. I typically see repeating numbers on digital clocks, gas station signs etc. Unfortunately, I have absolutely NO idea what this means…lol. I did google this phenomenon when it first started and found a bunch of stuff about angels trying to communicate with you, numerology and so on….but I’m not inclined to believe any of this. Sorry I can’t be more helpful, but I just wanted to share that you’re not the only one 🙂 If you do find a reasonable answer, let me know!!

I will definitely keep you in mind if I figure it out! I googled it too and got a lot of Mayan stuff that I didn’t understand. I hope I’m not the catalyst for the end of the world!!! PS – I’m not buying that one either.

Yeah, there are some wakadoos who think that when the Mayan calendar ends, it’ll be the end of the world.
Realistically, though, when the Mayan calendar ends, they’d run down to that booth at the mall and have the guy carve them a new one.

I do the same thing. I thought I was the only one, and I was weird. No. There are others like us. I do it just incase too. I do it at 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, 5:55, and 11:11. But 11:11 is the super duper wish time . And I always wish the same thing. Hmm I don’t know if I should say or it may not come true . I will just say it’s not a would peace wish. But it’s not a $elfish one either. I say definitely something is going to be happening to you. And yoyo are just starting to be really intune and listening to what is going on around you. Good luck

Thanks Julie. I’m left wondering if I shouldn’t be checking out my 10 items or less at the Lottery Lane and also picking up a LottoMax or something… Haha

Recurring numbers is what happens when they change something in the Matrix.

Seriously though, I generally treat superstitions and mythology as interesting cultural artifacts but not to be taken seriously.

I’d first look to see if you’ve altered your routine in a way that has you looking at a clock around that time. For example, if you’ve started taking your lunch a few minutes later, you might be more likely to be glancing at the clock when you return shortly after one. The chances of seeing it at 1:11 are pretty good.

Also, ever notice when you learn a new word, you suddenly start hearing it everywhere? People aren’t saying it more to help you practise, you just didn’t notice it before. same concept. You’re thinking about it, so you notice.

I always happen to notice when the clock is at 10:27. It stands out for me because my birthday is October 27. Does it mean something? Yes, it means I start thinking about going to bed roughly around 10:30-ish

I must have missed the memo; I’m not aware of any special times of the day meaning anything. This is good news for you, Chris. You can take it to mean anything you want and you can make it mean multiple things. So yes, World Peace, a bag money, a promotion, and your families health and safety…you’ve got it all!

I don’t know why…but I wish every time I see the 11:11 Been doing that for years.

It’s never come true…but who am I to tempt fate. I also knock on wood a lot (actually use my head and it seems to work ;)).

I’m not usually a superstitious person, but it seems I have a couple that I just do automatically LOL.

Good luck in finding out what it all means and let me know 🙂
