Netflix For Dads ~ Daredevil Edition

There hasn’t been a show since Lost that has captured my attention as much as Netflix’s Daredevil series. I’ll preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of the superhero genre and watch all the various shows that have spawned recently. That said, there’s a huge difference between the shows on regular cable and the shows that Netflix produces and Daredevil has quickly become my favourite of that bunch.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the acting and story lines that season 1 of Daredevil offered, I have to say that the addition of The Punisher to season 2 really brought the show to a new level. Every scene that Frank Castle appeared in was so full of raw emotion and energy that I often found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see what he was going to do next.

Keeping in mind that this is my favourite show at the moment, I did find the season as a whole was lacking something. The story wasn’t as interesting as it was with Wilson Fisk in season 1 and there were way too many fight scenes for my liking but the development and emotion of the main characters more than made up for any short comings in my mind. Also, bringing Fisk back for a couple episodes and setting up his potential return as Kingpin for season 3 literally had me smiling from ear to ear like a child.

Have you watched Daredevil yet? How did you feel about season 2?

I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team but all that means is that I watch a lot of Netflix. Too much Netflix, actually…

5 Reasons Why Netflix Is Crushing It Right Now {Plus a Giveaway!}

As I have recently come to find out, there are many things to love about Netflix. So many, in fact, that I had to narrow down my list to the top 5 or run the risk of writing a 300 page novel.

1. Netflix Kids – We love the Netflix Kids option in our house because while my kids are old enough to turn on the TV and set up Netflix by themselves, I feel a lot better knowing that they are going to be selecting shows that are appropriate for their ages. Some favourites in our house are H2O Mermaid Adventures, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Friends and Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. Also, once Fuller House is released I can promise you that my daughter will have it playing on a loop!

2. Documentaries – Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have heard about the polarizing Netflix original documentary ‘Making a Murderer’, which follows the murder investigation of Steven Avery, who had recently been exonerated for a crime that he spent 18 years in jail for. Hopefully the popularity of this documentary will lead people to explore what else Netflix has to offer. I have already watched Happy, Forensic Files and Cosmos, and have Trophy Kids, I Am Ali and Best of TED Talks on tap!

3. Original Programming – What was once solely a streaming service has quickly turned into one of my favourite sources for television shows. In just the last year I have loved Daredevil, Bloodline, Narcos, The Last Kingdom, Jessica Jones and Wet Hot American Summer. That’s only 6 of the many shows that Netflix has produced and the list of shows for 2016, including Marvel’s Luke Cage, looks even more incredible!

4. Great TV Shows – Here is a short list of shows that my wife and I have binged watched on Netflix. Breaking Bad, Pretty Little Liars, How To Get Away With Murder, House of Lies, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Suits and Gotham. Oh yeah, there’s also the cancelled shows they’ve revived such as The Killing and Arrested Development, which were both fantastic! You will literally never run out of great shows to watch on Netflix and it is definitely worth the investment!

5. Kung Fury – I’m not sure what to say about Kung Fury other than that it is a must watch for anyone who loved 80’s martial arts and police movies. The 30 minute short film is the closest thing you will experience to being on drugs without actually being on drugs and will blow your mind. Please go watch this, urgently!!

What I Watch On Netflix After The Kids Go To Bed

What started as a fun thing to check out when we had free time has now turned into an all out family obsession. I am, of course, talking about Netflix. Honestly, if it weren’t for sports, I don’t know that I would even have cable anymore because there is so much content for our whole family on Netflix that we are never without something to watch. As they have graciously asked me to be a part of their Stream Team, I thought I would use this month’s post to focus on the shows my wife and I watch after the kids have long gone to sleep. And I mean fast asleep because you don’t want them walking in during some of these shows…

Suits

Suits Netflix

Suits is your classic smart ass drama/comedy. It follows main characters and lawyers Harvey and Mike as they get into all kinds of trouble. The characters mesh perfectly, especially the dynamic between Harvey and Mike and there were very few episodes where I felt like the shtick was getting tired. Season 5 had been excellent so far and I hope the show lasts a long time as it is one of my all time favourites!

House of Lies

House of Lies Netflix

I just started this one last week on a recommendation from a friend and I was hooked immediately. This show is kind of like Suits, which explains why I loved it, except it is waaaaaay raunchier and foul mouthed. It follows a team of executives, led by Don Cheadle, and has a lot of smart comedy in it. There is also a lot of sex. A LOT. Definitely do not watch this with the kids anywhere nearby but definitely give it a test run because it is pretty funny.

Daredevil

Daredevil Netflix

What can I say? I’m a sucker for the superhero crazy that is going on right now. In my opinion, Daredevil is the best of all the superhero shows out there right now, and I’ve seen them all! The action seems so real and graphic, and the story is so dark that you can’t help but get sucked into it. Add in the fact that Vincent D’Onofrio is absolutely haunting as Daredevil’s main adversary and you’ll see why I’ve already watched the entire series twice.

Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad Netflix

I put this one off until after it had been over for a year. After the glowing reviews from all my friends I don’t know why I never watched it, to be honest, but I’m glad I finally did. I don’t know what more to say about it than to say that everyone was right. This is a must watch show no matter what kind of television you are into. I will also add that Better Call Saul, the spin-off show, was equally as brilliant.

Wet Hot American Summer

Wet Hot American Summer Netflix

I have to admit that I loved the original Wet Hot American Summer movie even though a lot of people I know thought it was ridiculous (not in a good way). Watching this series brought back a ton of great memories of the original movie and didn’t disappoint. I still can’t believe the entire original cast agreed to come back for this series. If you loved the movie, you will love this series.

Bloodline

Netflix Bloodline

Bloodline was a nice change of pace from the shows I normally watch and quickly became one of my favourites on Netflix. It is slow moving but the characters are so amazingly well written and acted that I got hooked immediately. I can’t wait to see what season 2 has in store of the Rayburn family.

Narcos

Narcos Netflix

This show just launched on Netflix yesterday but I have been waiting impatiently for weeks. I have only seen the first two episodes but that was enough for me to know that I will be staying up late to get it done over the next couple nights. This show is based on the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Drug Enforcement Agency agents hunting him.

Man, I hadn’t realized how much television I have been watching lately… Netflix has this feature that gives you like 15 seconds after one episode ends before the next one begins to decide if you want to watch more. I have such a hard time deciding what to do that I usually just keep watching until the TV breaks down. Life is hard.

Now it’s your turn! What do you watch on Netflix after the kids go to bed?!

Disclosure: I am a member of the Netflix Stream Team but that is only because I was already an addict of the system and begged them to take me on board…

My Family’s Netflix Streaming List – June Edition

So this Netflix thing is growing on me. As odd as it sounds, I think I was using it incorrectly when we first signed up a year ago. I’d watch the odd movie here or there but never really dug in and explored everything it had to offer. In the last few months my family has been going through the list of titles and picking out things we’d like to watch at some point. Slowly but surely we trying out new shows and I wanted to share what each of us are enjoying right now. Besides, the family that Netflixes together, stays together. Right??

Dad (That’s Me!) – Daredevil

It should be noted that I am a full on superhero/comic nerd, so I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this new Netflix original version of Daredevil. Man, did it ever blow my mind! I rarely feel like a show is perfectly executed but this is the closest thing I have ever seen to that. Vincent D’Onofrio’s, Wilson Fisk character, will leave you with chills running down your spine!

Daredevil Netflix

Mom – Bloodline

This is one that I started without my wife and then felt guilty about it because it was so good. After we rewatched the first episode, she was hooked and we finished the whole season in less than two weeks. This show takes family disfunction to a new and exciting level! I have no idea how they are going to top what they did in Season 1 but I am really looking forward to it.

Bloodline Netflix

7 Year Old Son – Beyblade (All of them!)

My son doesn’t watch a lot of TV but he is addicted to these Beyblade shows on Netflix. If you have a young boy you will no doubt be feeling the Beyblade craze right now. I have no idea what happened as Beyblades had all but disappeared from existence, only to come back with a vengeance and take over our whole street! I’ve sat with him and watched the Beyblade shows and I have to admit that they are pretty cool.

Beyblade Netflix

5 Year Old Daughter – LEGO Friends

We started my daughter with Barbie’s Life in the Dreamhouse but as soon as she saw the LEGO Friends show, she was hooked. True to 5 year old fashion, we have watched the same episodes multiple times in a row and she never seems to tire of it. It’s almost like she thinks there is going to be a different outcome one of these times…

LEGO Friends Netflix

Bonus Show! – Full House

Last but not least, the original episodes of Full House have graced the Netfix platform and we have it slated to show the kids in the next week or so. I have no idea how it is going to hold up but the kids are starting to enjoy more than just cartoons, so I’m hopeful that we can share a bit of our youth with them!

Full House Netflix

That’s what we are streaming this month. How about you? Are you a Netflix subscriber? If so, what are you binging on at the moment?!

Netflix Lies

Netflix Is Filled With Lies

Link bait is also a form of lying, isn’t it? Well, now that I have you here let me explain myself. I recently agreed to sign on with Netflix to be a part of their Stream Team, which means that every month I will be talking about the shows my family is watching and sharing some of Netflix’s suggestions with you.

My first month happened to be an eventful one as I had the chance to pre-screen a few episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil and then proceeded to watch the entire 13 episode season in under 4 days… If you have been on the fence about this show, it is seriously time to hop off and watch it. It is incredibly dark and violent, which was actually a plus when compared to some of the other comic book shows on cable right now.

My wife and I also just started watched a show called White Collar and definitely recommend it so far, especially if you enjoy watching something like Suits. And speaking of Suits, I want to say that my wife and I are patiently watching for Season 4 to arrive on Netflix but there is no patience in this house…other than with our kids, of course.

As far as lying goes, Netflix has you covered with classics like Liar, Liar and one of my personal favourites, Mean Girls. I’ve also been told that the next show on our watch list, Bloodline, centers around lies and we can’t wait to hit it up!

That’s it for this month but stay tuned as I will be sharing more of my family’s favourite Netflix titles in the months to come! Stream on!
